Teacher Cover Letter Sample

It's no secret: competition is stiff when it comes to teaching jobs. That's why it's more important than ever to craft a persuasive, professional cover letter that covers all the bases, and then some. The truth is the cover letter is NOT the focus of many job seekers. Yet it's the first document the hiring manager or superintendent will read.

Your qualifications, education, skills, and experience are going to be in your resume, but it's important to pick the most important things that will differentiate you from the rest of the job seekers, and put them in your cover letter.

Your cover letter is also the place where you must give the hiring manager a "good feeling" about you as a person and as a professional. In teaching, especially, it's important to convey that you really care about the needs of your students. You may even want to share a brief but specific "heart warming" example. I'd like to apply for one of the open elementary school teaching positions in the Hanford School District. I graduated from Jackson College in 2003, and I have classroom experience in the first and fifth grade levels.

Currently, I am teaching "at risk" kindergarteners. I've enjoyed this position because I'm able to help these students master the basic skills they need to thrive in later grades. It takes a lot of nurturing and patience, and I think they've taught me as much as I've taught them.

During my sophomore year at Jackson College, I developed a love for and knowledge of horses. I became involved with taking care of older "retired" horses. This work gave me the opportunity to teach my students about horses, and coordinate some field trips to the stables. This has been a fulfilling experience for my students and me—and perhaps for the horses too!
